Welcome to the University of Virginia School of Nursing.

Obtaining accounts, including e-mail, and registering your e-mail address are critical steps that you will want to undertake at your earliest convenience.  Until you've completed these steps, you may miss out on important communications, and you will be unable to access online course sites. Current University Health System employees: please ensure that you check steps 4 and 5 below.

Note: undergraduate students must wait 72 hours after your deposit is received and posted before completing this process.  Graduate students must wait 72 hours after receipt and processing of your acceptance letter before completing this process.

To activate your accounts at UVa, you will need to know two things: your University Computing ID (an alphanumeric value generated, in part, from your first, middle, and last initials), and a University-issued password.  Students newly admitted to the University (and not currently employees of the University) will use your Student Information System password; current students and employees may use any of several UVa account passwords, including the Health System password if you are a University Health System employee.  If you do not know one or either of these things:

If you have difficulty locating either of these values, please call the School Registrar at (434) 924-0076 for assistance.

  1. Review the Responsible Computing Handbook.  You may also wish to review the When I go to UVa... video.
  2. Once you know your computing ID and a University password (either the Student System Password or another password if you are a current University employee), choose from the following options:
      • Degree-program undergraduate and graduate students, click here to activate your accounts
      • Non-degree and special status students, click here to activate your accounts
  3. Select a UVa email provider (note: we recommend that current University employees use their current UVa e-mail account and skip this step; however, you should still check steps 4 and 5 below).  To select a UVa e-mail provider, click here.
  4. If you are not a University employee, skip ahead to step 5.  If you are a University employee, ensure that your University e-mail address has been registered with the University mailkeeper.  To check if your e-mail address has been registered, click here, search by your Computing ID, and ensure that the field Registered E-Mail Address exists.  If this field does not exist, skip to step 5.
  5. If you did not select in step 3 to obtain a UVa Gmail or UVa Microsoft Live account, or if you are a current University employee who does not have a registered e-mail address (see Step 4), you must register your e-mail address with the University's Address Management System.

Note: this step is critical for both receiving official communications from the University, and for access UVA Collab, the online course management system.  Access to Collab will not be possible prior to 6:00am (ET) the morning following registration of your e-mail address.

This completes the address registration process.  Please note that access to Collab course sites will be possible after 6:00am the morning following registration of your e-mail address.

If you require technical assistance with this process, please contact the ITC Help Desk at (434) 924-4357.
