Welcome to the University of Virginia School of Nursing.
Obtaining accounts, including e-mail, and registering your e-mail address are critical steps that you will want to undertake at your earliest convenience. Until you've completed these steps, you may miss out on important communications, and you will be unable to access online course sites. Current University Health System employees: please ensure that you check steps 4 and 5 below.
Note: undergraduate students must wait 72 hours after your deposit is received and posted before completing this process. Graduate students must wait 72 hours after receipt and processing of your acceptance letter before completing this process.
To activate your accounts at UVa, you will need to know two things: your University Computing ID (an alphanumeric value generated, in part, from your first, middle, and last initials), and a University-issued password. Students newly admitted to the University (and not currently employees of the University) will use your Student Information System password; current students and employees may use any of several UVa account passwords, including the Health System password if you are a University Health System employee. If you do not know one or either of these things:
- To lookup your computing ID, click here.
- To lookup your Student Information System password, click here.
- Your Student System ID Number is a 7-digit number (not to be confused with your University ID number, a 9-digit number). Check the e-mail that you received acknowledging receipt of your application for this number.
- For Electronic Mail Address, you must use the e-mail address that you specified when applying to the University
If you have difficulty locating either of these values, please call the School Registrar at (434) 924-0076 for assistance.
- Review the Responsible Computing Handbook. You may also wish to review the When I go to UVa... video.
- Once you know your computing ID and a University password (either the Student System Password or another password if you are a current University employee), choose from the following options:
- Select a UVa email provider (note: we recommend that current University employees use their current UVa e-mail account and skip this step; however, you should still check steps 4 and 5 below). To select a UVa e-mail provider, click here.
- If you are not a University employee, skip ahead to step 5. If you are a University employee, ensure that your University e-mail address has been registered with the University mailkeeper. To check if your e-mail address has been registered, click here, search by your Computing ID, and ensure that the field Registered E-Mail Address exists. If this field does not exist, skip to step 5.
- If you did not select in step 3 to obtain a UVa Gmail or UVa Microsoft Live account, or if you are a current University employee who does not have a registered e-mail address (see Step 4), you must register your e-mail address with the University's Address Management System.
Note: this step is critical for both receiving official communications from the University, and for access UVA Collab, the online course management system. Access to Collab will not be possible prior to 6:00am (ET) the morning following registration of your e-mail address.
- To register an e-Mail address (such as a University Health System address or a third party e-mail address), click here.
- Login using an existing UVa password (Health System employees may use your computing ID and Health System password)
- Click on Manage Deliverable Addresses
In the field to the right of “Add a deliverable address in the format youraddress@yourdomain.virginia.edu,” enter your full-qualified e-mail Address. Health System employees should enter an address in the format of mst3k@hscmail.mcc.virginia.edu. Click on the Submit button - Check your e-mail account for a notification message with a special link that you must click to complete this process. This e-mail notification is generated immediately. If you are registering a University Health System e-mail account, you should receive the notification e-mail within five minutes
- After receipt of the notification e-mail, click on the verification link provided. You must use this link prior to midnight of the same day in which the e-mail registration was made. If you are unable to verify the registration prior to midnight, start this step (step 5) over again
- After verifying your e-mail address, click on Manage Aliases
- In the field “Check an alias’ availability”, enter just your ComputingID (e.g., mst3k) and click on the “Check Alias” button
- On the next screen, choose your registered e-mail address (such as your Health System e-mail address) for the “deliver to” value, and then click on the Create Alias button.
This completes the address registration process. Please note that access to Collab course sites will be possible after 6:00am the morning following registration of your e-mail address.
If you require technical assistance with this process, please contact the ITC Help Desk at (434) 924-4357.
